WHEN PEACE LIKE A RIVER by Phillip P. Bliss 1875

When peace like a river attended my way, when sorrows like sea billows swell.

Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say: it is well, it is well with my soul.

Chorus

It is well, it is well with my soul; with my soul, it is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffer, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control, that Christ has regarded my helpless estate and has shed His on blood for my soul.

My sin, O the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin not in part, but the whole, is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more; praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul.

O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll, the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend; even so it is well with my soul.

LORD OF THE DANCE

1.    I danced in the morning when the world was began,
And I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun,
And I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth,
At Bethlehem I had my birth.

Dance then wherever you may be
I am the Lord of the dance said he
And I’ll lead you all wherever you may be
And I’ll lead you all in the dance said he.

2.    I danced for the Scribe and the Pharisee,
But they would not dance and they wouldn’t follow me,
I danced for the fishermen, James and John
They came with me and the dance went on.

3.    I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame,
The holy people said it was a shame,
They whipped me and stripped me and they hung me on high,
And left me there on the cross to die.

4.    I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black
It is hard to dance with the devil on your back
They buried my body and they thought I’d gone,
But I am the dance and I still go on.

5.    They cut me down and I leapt on high
I am the life that’ll never, never die
I’ll live in you if you’ll live in me
I am the Lord of the dance, said he

O GOD UNSEEN YET EVER NEAR

1.    God, unseen yet ever near,
Thy presence may we feel;
And thus inspired with holy fear,
Before thine altar kneel.

2.    Here may thy faithful people know
The blessings of thy love,
The streams that through the desert flow,
The manna from above.

3.    We come, obedient to thy word,
To feast on heav’nly food;
Our meat the body of the Lord,
Our drink his precious blood.
4.    Thus may we all thy word obey,
For we, O God, are thine;
And go rejoicing on our way,
Renewed with strength divine.
